Week 2: August 29 - September 2, 2011

Monday: No School (Power Outage due to Hurricane Irene)

Tuesday & Wednesday Objectives:
Students will find the mean, median and mode in order to describe the central tendency of a set of data.
Students will construct and analyze box-and-whisker plots in order to summarize data and draw informed conclusion.

Thursday & Friday Objectives:
Students will investigate and analyze data that uses statistical methods in order to determine the advantages and disadvantages.
Students will define a simple random sample in order to identify possible sources of bias in other types of samples.

Homework will be given daily. Please be sure to review class notes as you study and prepare for each day in class.

Great Start

Greeting Students and Parents:

Thank you for a great first week of school. This week we covered Lesson 1 of Unit 1 (Data Analysis and Probability). Students learned to (1) write matrices given a word problem or table, (2) add and subtract matrices and (2) solve matrices using scalar multiplication. The important terms of this lesson were: matrix, dimension, element/entry and scalar.

Welcome!

Welcome Students, and parents, to Algebra 1 DL Co-Taught. This year you are in for some excititing adventures in mathematics for which you may have not one, or two but three teachers to guide you through the experience. We will teach you many concepts and help you develop many skills in Algebra from solving basic algebra problems (including word problems) to challenging Data Analysis and Probability problems. No matter what we are covering, you will have a lot of help to get you started and to keep you going.
